Van Wert Woman's Club to Host Shirley Dunbar on July 24th
Shirley Dunbar, who will present the program, "Hats!," at 1:30 p.m. at the July 24th Woman's Club Tea, is a lady of many diverse interests, but one of the most dominant interests and certainly one of the most obvious, is her fondness for hats of all kinds.

In her program she will display many of her considerable array of hats to demonstrate the fashion and reveal the psychological benefit of wearing hats.  She also has many astute observations to offer, such as "Hats inspire women to have a positive attitude," "Your hats show your own personality and emotions," and--perhaps her most intriguing observation of all, this hat-buying tip:  "The larger the brim, the smaller the waist!"

Ms. Dunbar's interests and talents are many and eclectic.  Besides her programs on hats, she has given presentations on cooking and herbs and designed her own gardens, where she frequently hosts teas.  In addition to being a member of the Toledo Chorale Society, she has enjoyed performing as a dancer.  She has also raised horses.

Her many hats have come from various sources.  Some have been purchased at tea houses and department stores, some are expensive designer and vintage hats, and some are hats that Ms. Dunbar herself has made.

This outstanding program will be preceded by the traditional scones, five savories, and five sweetmeats, including the traditional tea requisites--scones and cucumber sandwiches, and, of course, the club's specialty tea.   Since July is the Independence Day month, various ornamentations of red, white, and blue will be in abundance throughout the dining area, along with red, white, and blue underlying the lace tablecloths.  Many of the food items will also carry through the colors of red, white, and blue.

Because seating is limited, reservations for the Tea should be made well in advance.  Reservations are $12 per guest.  Off-street parking is available behind the clubhouse, located at 654 S. Washington St., Van Wert.  Call Jean Owens, 419-238-6639, or e-mail joytrips@watchtv.net.

Mossburg Children to Entertain at Van Wert Woman's Club Tea
Coming Thursday, June 26th @ 1:30 PM
Soothed by the music produced by stringed instruments?  In the mood for an inspiring musicale by vastly talented young musicians?  Enjoy trying unusual and luscious tidbits elegantly presented?  For a truly memorable afternoon filled with beautiful music and wonderful food, call 419-238-6639 now for your reservation for Thursday, June 26th, when the Mossburg Strings will make their annual appearance at the Van Wert Woman's Club Tea.

The extraordinarily gifted Mossburg children have been impressing audiences at various venues throughout Indiana and Ohio for several years now.  They have entertained at a luncheon for Laura Bush in Indianapolis, as well as at Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels' Inaugural Gala.  These past Indiana State Fair Youth Talent winners have also performed at various Fort Wayne Philharmonic Galas, and appeared at the Fort Wayne Coliseum as an opening act for Steve Green, Ryan Dobson, and Alan Keyes.

These siblings from Uniondale, Indiana, the eldest of nine children in the Mossburg family, also spend many of their weekends entertaining at weddings, birthday celebrations, and other smaller gatherings, as well as appearing at special programs in various churches.

Chairman Nancy Farmer has chosen the theme of "Roses, Ribbons, and Lace" for this Tea.  The theme will be carried out in various ways, including the roses and lace decorating the serving tiers, and lace tablecloths.

Most of those who have attended past Teas at the club have learned that eating lunch on the day of the Tea is totally unnecessary because of the five savories and five sweetmeats served during the afternoon.  Of course, no Tea would be complete without the traditional scones with lemon curd, Devonshire cream, and jam to accompany them.  And there is plenty of the club's specialty tea, as well.

This Tea would be a great opportunity to treat a special friend or relative--or just yourself!--to a truly enjoyable afternoon with wonderful entertainment and delicious treats in an elegant 130-year-old home.  Lace tablecloths, unusual teapots, and beautiful china teacups and saucers add to the delightful atmosphere.

The Tea will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, at the clubhouse, 654 S. Washington St., Van Wert.  Reservations are $12 per guest.  Off-street parking is available behind the clubhouse.  Reservations may be made with Jean Owens at 41-238-6639, or by emailing joytrips@watchtv.net.
