DAVIS

Orval “Jack” K. Davis, 99, of Rockford, Ohio, died at 7:55 pm Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at  the Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford. 

 

He was born in Ohio to Bert and Cora (Anselman) Davis on April 13, 1909.  On February 6, 1929, he married Evelyn Louetta Counterman, and she preceded in death on May 26, 1992.  Mr. Davis retired from Davis Hay and Straw in Rockford where he was owner and operator.  He had lived in Rockford since 1937 and was a member of the Rockford United Methodist Church.

 

Surviving are 2 sons, Melvin Davis of Bryan, Ohio and Richard Keith Davis of Rockford.  One daughter, Sharon Ames survives in Fort Wayne, Indiana, along with 9 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.  Deceased are 3 brothers, Raymond, Woodrow, and Robert, along with an infant sister.

 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 28, 2008 at 11:00 am at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, in Rockford, with Pastor Mike Berne officiating.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.  Friends may call on Sunday at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and on Monday, one hour prior to the service.

DEITSCH

Wilma Gertrude Deitsch, 94, 806 W. Market St., Celina died on 12:25 A.M.,  Wednesday,  April 23, 2008  at  The Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford.
 

She was born on November 25, 1913 in  Liberty Township to  William C. & Emma M. ( Fisher ) Weitz.

 

She married Lawrence Valentine Deitsch  on Nov. 25, 1937. He died June 7, 1958.

 

In 1959, she began working at the Mercer County Library in Celina and continued there for 38 Years, becoming well-known as the “Story Hour Lady”.  Over the years many children listened to Wilma’s stories and enjoyed her homemade treats and fun crafts.

She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church Hopewell, of rural Celina.  Over the years she had been involved in the Senior Citizens Craft Club,  Celina Garden Club,
and the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America ( WELCA ).  She was
a 1931 Graduate of Celina High School.


Surviving is one son,
Edward Deitsch, Celina, three sisters, Christiana Deitsch, Rockford, OH,  Magdalene Weitz of Celina, one step-son-in-law Eugene Hirschfeld and six grandchildren, Mary Jo Muhlenkamp,  Rodney Hirschfeld,  Alice Siddall,  Pamela Gilmore, Timothy Hirschfeld  &  Savana Deitsch,  11  Great Grandchildren  and  1  Great Great Grandchild.
 

Deceased is a  Step-Daughter  Patricia Hirschfeld  and  2  Brothers:  Paul & Elmer Weitz   
 

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M.,  Saturday,  April 26  at  St. John’s Lutheran Church Hopewell, Celina   with Pastor Debra Domeier officiating.  Burial will be in Buck Cemetery, Celina.
 

Friends may call at the W. H. Dick & Sons - Hellwarth Funeral Home 2-4 & 6-8 P.M., Friday, April 25   and 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday.  Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church Hopewell

GILBERT

Clara C. Gilbert, 69, of Van Wert, died at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert.

She was born February 8, 1939, in Glenmore, the daughter of the late Elmer Edward and Florence Viola (Giessler) Garver.

Survivors include three daughters, Cynthia (Mark) Sundem of Olympia, Wash., and Connie (Mike) Butler and Cathy (Jeff) Jones, both of Van Wert; a brother, Edward E. (Alice) Garver of Van Wert; one sister, Rosemary L. “Squeedle) Krick of Ohio City; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 28, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor Jody Harr officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, April 27, and an hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials: First United Brethren in Christ Church’s Audio-Visual Fund or a charity of donor’s choice.
