DOAN

Frank Doan, 81, of Van Wert, Ohio, died Friday, December 28, 2007 at 10:35 AM at Van Wert Manor Nursing Home.  He was born in Kokomo, Indiana on June 14, 1926, to Ethel Franklin and Anna Mae (Rogers)  Doan.  On August 5, 1944, he married Ruby Emma (Cowgill) and she survives.

 

He attended Ohio City United Methodist Church and was a 1943 graduate of Ohio City-Liberty High School and a graduate of Giffin College. He served in World War II, a  veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Isaac Van Wert Post 178 of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Spencerville. Frank was a long-time basketball official and baseball umpire. He was inducted into the Ohio High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame and Acme Baseball Congress Hall of Fame.

 

Surviving are two daughters, Annelle (Larry) Reynolds Spencerville, OH and Nancy DeCamp Van Wert; one sister Louise Dull of Van Wert; 5 grandchildren, Randy (Jeri) Reynolds, Trent (Amy) DeCamp, Kari (Tim) Weidner, Shane (Stacy) Reynolds, and Alyssa (Clay) Young; and 9 great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters: Jessie Hickernell, Elmer Doan, Margaret Simmons, Edna Hoghe,
 Phyllis Balliet, Dave Doan, and Charles Doan

Services will be held on 7 p.m., Sunday,  December 30, 2007 at Cowan and Son Funeral Home in Van Wert with Pastor Michael Waldron of Ohio City United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will be in Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery at a later time.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday 4 - 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Family or Ohio City United Methodist Church.
