SHELDON
   
Harriet Evelyn Sheldon, 102, of Van Wert, died at 9:10 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2007, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.

She was born March 21, 1905, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Isaac Bertrum and Elizabeth (Slagle) Ireland. On June 19, 1926, she married Gordon Max Sheldon, who died March 29, 1982.

Survivors include a son, Joseph M. (Margery) Sheldon of Van Wert; one daughter, Susan G. (Richard) Wingard of Chocowinity, N.C.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Two brothers, Vaughn E. and Harley E. Ireland, and two sisters, Virginia McFarland Kaufman and Margaret Naomi Ireland, also preceded her in death.

She was active in St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Van Wert and Christ Episcopal Church in Lima, Ohio. She was a 1921 graduate of Ohio City-Liberty High School.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. David Sipes (Mrs. Sheldon's nephew) officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the American Cancer Society or Community Health Professionals.
