Ione Byer, 89, Ohio City passed away on Friday, February 29, 2008 at 6:40 PM at Van Crest Nursing Center in Van Wert, Ohio.
 

She was born August 8, 1918 in Van Wert County to John and Cecil (Denny) McDorman. 


Surviving are one son Bruce R (Mary) Byer of Ohio City, and two daughters, Phyllis (Philip) Battels Ada, Ohio and Linda Tice of Convoy; one brother, Roy McDorman of Mendon
, 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by a son, Mark Byer, two brothers Dale McDorman and  Earl McDorman, three sisters Ethel Jamieson, Clarrisa May McDorman and  Helen Shook, and one grandchild.
 

She was a homemaker.


Funeral services will be held
11:00 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2008 at Cowan & Son Funeral Home Van Wert, Ohio with Pastor Steve Waterman of the Olive Branch Church of God officiating.  Burial will follow at Tomlinson Cemetery.


Calling will be
Sunday 2 - 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Hospice.

SHEETS

Wanda Sheets, 95, Antwerp, died at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

She was born Jan. 25, 1913, in Van Wert, the daughter of Rollie and Goldie (Thomas) Springer. In 1936, she married Glenn Sheets, who died in 1995. She was a former Rockford resident, where she was a member of the Methodist Church, but spent last three years at Country Inn, Paulding. She was head bookkeeper for Mercer and Rockford Landmark and Farmers Grain Elevator from 1958-67, and retired in 1975 as personnel secretary at Kroger in Fort Wayne and division distributor for Luzier Cosmetic Company. She was former president of Celina Business and Professional Women's Club, member of OSU Agricultural Extension Service for Van Wert and Mercer counties for 18 years, Eastern Star Worthy Matron of Rockford Chapter 152, 4-H leader, and a Van Wert and Mercer County fair board member. She had her own band of twin accordions with Gertude McCain called the Rhythm Dots, sang in the Berne, Ind. Mennonite Choir, and received honors at the Van Wert Art Show for her painting.

Surviving are a daughter, Renee (Kevin) West, Antwerp; a brother, Meredith (Ernestine) Springer, Van Wert; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, with Rev. Mike Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior services Thursday.
