Carrie A. (Chivington) Roeth, 26, of Troy and formerly of Fletcher, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2008, in Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis, Ind., after a three-year battle with cancer. Carrie was born July 21, 1981, the daughter of David and Roxy (Jones) Chivington. She married Justin Roeth on Aug. 3, 2002, and he survives in Troy along with their  son, Jacob.

She is survived by her parents, the Rev. David and Roxy Chivington of Elida; three brothers, Aaron (Ali) Chivington of Gahanna, Ryan (Betsy) Chivington of Urbana and Nathan (Amy) Chivington of Franklin; her paternal grandmother, the Rev. Mrs. Wayne (Marilyn Chivington) Hardman of Fletcher; maternal great-grandmother, Anna Mary Etter of DuPont; and three nephews and one niece. Additional survivors include her mother and father-in-law, Jeff and Debby Roeth of Troy, a goddaughter, Mikayla Dodane of St. Paris, and many other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Keith and Gloria Jones, and paternal grandfather, the Rev. Claude Chivington.

Carrie was a 1999 graduate of Miami East High School and a 2003 graduate of Taylor University, where she majored in education. She was an outstanding athlete winning many honors in soccer, basketball and track. While at Taylor University she was a member of the women's basketball team.

Carrie' parents lived in the Willshire community for several years. Her mother, Roxie taught and coached basketball at Parkway while her father, David served the Willshire/Union UM Churches.

Carrie was a member of the Fletcher United Methodist Church where she was active on the Building Fund Committee, a Sunday school teacher and a youth group leader. She delivered the children's message each Sunday and headed the vacation Bible school program. She also was a third-grade teacher at Vandalia-Butler Murlin Heights Elementary School.

Carrie will be remembered as a loving mother and devoted wife. She was an advocate for putting others before herself and an extremist in living life, loving life, and giving life to others.

Services are schdeuled at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church, 110 W. Franklin St., Troy, with the Rev. Russ Tichenor of the Fletcher United Methodist Church presiding. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at First Place, 16 W. Franklin St., Troy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Carrie's memory to the Fletcher United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 278, Fletcher, OH or to the Carrie Roeth Scholarship Fund for Athletes Going into Education, Fifth Third Bank, 948 N. Market St., Troy, OH.
