Joan Schlatter, 91 of Van Wert, peacefully passed away at 10:37 p.m.,
Friday, March 4, 2016, surrounded by her family, at the Community Health
Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.
She was born on October 18, 1924 in Van Wert, Ohio, the daughter of the
late Orley W. and Jennie M. (Baker) Putman. On December 7, 1946, she
married Fred Lee Schlatter, who preceded her in death on August 7, 1968.
She ended her nursing career in 1997 after 52 years. She had worked at
the Van Wert Hospital, for Dr. Underwood, and served as the Director of
Nursing at VanCrest Health Care Center and Van Wert Manor. She ended her
career working as a private duty nurse with Hospice patients.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Van Wert.
She had served on the Cerebral Palsy Board. She was a member of the
B.P.O. Elks #1197, Van Wert and the Van Wert Nurses Association. She
was a 1942 graduate of Van Wert High School and a 1945 graduate of St.
Joseph School of Nursing in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Through the years in her spare time, Joan loved to bowl, golf, knit,
complete word search puzzles, and enjoyed spending time with her family
Family survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy & Jim
Stanley of Van Wert; grandson, Todd (Diane) Daniels of Toledo; great
granddaughter, Madison Daniels; and nephew and nieces, Bill (Marcy)
Wellman of Celina, Barb (Bud) Reed of Van Wert, and Cheryl (Tom) Compton
of Cincinnati, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her twin sisters, Sarah Rebecca “Becky”
Agler and Betty Wellman.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, March 9, 10:30 a.m., at
Cowan & Son Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Paul W. Miller of First
United Methodist Church. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8,
3-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment is at Woodland Cemetery in Van

Lechifflard, 93, long time resident of Vero Beach, Florida and Celina,
Ohio, passed away at Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center, on March 4,
2016 at 3:53 pm. She was born August 4, 1922 in Mercer County, Ohio.
her children, Kathy (Ron) Seibel, Sylvania, OH, Butch (Karen) Hoffman,
Celina, Bill (Shirley) Hoffman, Celina, Vicki (Al) Summers, Pataskala,
OH, Patricia (Grover) Nuding, Celina, Kelly (Beth) Hoffman, Celina; 13
grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in
death by her first husband, Keith Hoffman on January 6, 1976 and her
second husband Al Lechifflard on August 4, 2013.
She was a 1940
graduate of Celina Senior High School.
She attended St.
Paul’s United Methodist Church, Celina and sang in the choir for 30 plus
singing, square dancing and traveling.

Home, Celina with Rev. Matt Overman officiating. The family will
receive friends 9:00 am – 11:00 am prior to the service.
Burial will follow
