DRAKE


Blaine Drake, 92, of Convoy, died at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.

He was born March 8, 1915, in Mendon, the son of the late Ray A. and Mary Ann (Miller) Drake. On October 16, 1937, he married Mildred B. (Clay) Drake, who survives.

Mr. Drake owned and operated Drake’s Hardware in Convoy for 40 years (1956-1996). He was a member of Sugar Ridge Church of God, where he faithfully served as life elder, superintendent and former Sunday School teacher. He was a 1934 graduate of Mendon-Union High School and was a member of Gideons International for more than 50 years, holding many offices. He was a former member of the Convoy Business Association and Convoy Lions Club.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Connie E. Drake of Van Wert; two sons, Gary (Marcia) Drake and Steven (Cathy) Drake, both of Convoy; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Joshua) Drake-Finegold, Kent Drake, Stephanie (Matthew) Eding, and Joseph, Melissa and Hannah Drake; and two great-grandchildren, Casey and Riley Finegold.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Steven G. Waterman officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.

Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at the funeral home.

FAHL


Helen P. Fahl, 83, of Lynn, Indiana, died Sunday morning, May 18, 2008, surrounded by her family, at St. Vincent's Randolph Hospital in Winchester, IN. Death was due to complications of multiple myeloma. Mrs. Fahl was born in North Vernon, Indiana, on December 19, 1924, the daughter of Shirley and Grace (Brown) Anderson. She married Sherman Fahl in 1947, moved to Randolph County in 1951 and shared farming duties until their retirement in 1991.

 

Mrs. Fahl was a homemaker, avid quilter, avid reader, avid sports fans and was a member of First Church of Christ where she was a former choir member. She was a faithful volunteer at St. Vincent's Randolph Hospital when her health allowed.

 

She is survived by her children: Susan (Darrell) Sheppard of Rockford OH, Nancy (Greg) Cheatham of Olathe KS, Steven (Gayle) Fahl of Lynn, Andy (Diana) Fahl of Lynn, Doug (Connie) Fahl of Ligonier IN, Becky (Jeff) Johnson of Lexington KY, and Jennifer (Zane) Hendrickson of Losantville IN, 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her sisters, Mary Alleyne Anderson and Dorothy McKay.
 

Viewing will be at Walker's Funeral Home, Winchester, IN from 5-8 on Wednesday.

 

Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 10:30 am
