NICHOLS
William Lee “Bill” Nichols, 73, of Lima, Ohio and formerly of Mendon, died at 10:47 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, at St. Rita's Medical Center.

He was born May 21, 1937, in Lima to Gerald R. and E. Miriam (Zeigler) Nichols, who preceded him in death. On October 16, 1960, he married Alice M. Steiner, who survives.

A 1955 graduate of Mendon Union High School, he retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked from 1965 to 1996 as a postal carrier. He was an avid trap shooter, fisherman and woodworker. He loved spending time in his workshop creating family heirlooms for his children and grandchildren. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, and fishing on Lake Erie.

Survivors also include two daughters, Jill A. (Johann Kramer) Nichols and Tracy S. (Vincent) Catalano, both of Lima; seven grandchildren, Nicole Warnecke, W. Travis Tidd, Jayme Tidd, Alyssa Tidd, Jonathan Catalano, William Catalano and Thomas Catalano; a great-granddaughter, Lydia Wills; a brother, Richard (Helen) Nichols, of Marion, Ind.; two brothers-in-law, Dale (Irene) Steiner, of Wapakoneta, and Jerry (Elaine) Steiner, of Mendon; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Benny) Beckman, of Delphos; a step-granddaughter, Karlie (Scott) Cunningham; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Services are set at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services with Pastor Tim Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011, at the funeral home.
