District Bowling Trek Completed by Panthers
by Michelle Tribolet - Thanks for sharing!

On Friday, February 24, Parkway’s Varsity Girls Bowling team and Jeremy Tribolet travelled to Interstate Lanes in Rossford, OH to participate in District Tournament.  The girls competed in the morning.  While playing against 17 other teams and a total of 121 bowlers, Freshman, Amanda Stachler, placed 20th with a 164, 177 and 190, followed by Seniors, Haylee Abromavich, Sydney Cook and Allison Dicke.  The Parkway Girls finished the day in 12th.  This was the first time that one of Parkway’s bowling teams advanced to districts.  Congratulations ladies on a record-setting season!  The girls are coached by Kieth Kiefer.

Later in the afternoon, Junior, Jeremy Tribolet competed against 119 individual bowlers, including 18 teams at the 40 lane bowling alley.  After rolling a 167, 178 and 162 on oily lane conditions, Jeremy finished 62, an improvement over his finish last year at districts.  Jeremy was coached by Josh Goff along with Kieth Kiefer.

The WOHSBC caps off their season by holding a banquet at Roemer’s Catering in Celina on Sunday, March 11.  Two pro bowlers from the PBA will be in attendance and awards and scholarships will be handed out.  Check out the WOHSBC website for stats and standings from the season at wohsbc.com

The teams would like to thank the coaches and their parents for their continued support throughout their successful season.

Parkway Bowling History is Made
by Michelle Tribolet - Thanks for sharing!

With the much appreciated dedication of the coaches, the Varsity teams were able to set several school records this year. The Varsity boys set a record for High Team Game (1062) and High Team Series (2915). The Varsity girls set records of High Team Game (849) and High Team Series (2448). Senior Sydney Cook also set the record for High Average of 163.42.

One of the highlights of the Varsity boy’s team was back to back wins against both Coldwater and St. Henry. When the boys defeated Coldwater, this was the first time in school history that this was accomplished. Their High Team Game school record was set that afternoon. After the first game, with a "low" score of 196, their opponent was down 104 pins and Parkway never lost the lead. The next week, the boys defeated St. Henry and set the school record of High Team Series. Bryce Bedwell had the high average for the team again this year with a 181.43 with Jeremy Tribolet and Cody Pierstorff not far behind with a 177.58 and 177.33, respectively. The team had a record of 9-6 to finish 7th in the league.

For the Varsity girls team, their biggest highlight was advancing as a team to District Tournament for the first time in school history. With solid performances from Seniors, Sydney Cook, Brooke Boznango, Allison Dicke and Haylee Abromavich, the girl’s team is headed to Rossford, Ohio this Friday (2-24-2012) to participate against many other teams at 10:00 a.m. at Interstate Lanes (40 lanes). The girls finish the regular season with a 7-6 record and finished 6th. High average for the team was Sydney Cook with a 163.42 with Brooke Boznango finishing with a 158.19.

Good luck also goes to Jeremy Tribolet who qualified for District tournament for the second year in a row as an individual. He bowled a 556 three game series in tournament, finishing tied for 5th place overall and second as an individual not participating on an advancing team. Jeremy will also travel to Rossford this Friday.

Congratulations to all bowling teams this year. Your matches were very exciting to watch and the seniors will be greatly missed!!

Learn the History of the Parkway Bowling Teams
by Michelle Tribolet

Did you know that Parkway had bowling teams? The high school program started back in 2002 with Plaza Lanes in Celina housing this sport. We currently have a boys and girls junior varsity team and a boys and girls varsity team.

For the high school teams, an individual tournament starts the bowling season the week before Thanksgiving in Van Wert. The season continues on Saturday mornings/afternoons through mid-February with the teams visiting the following towns: Celina, Minster, New Bremen, Fort Recovery, Mississinewa Valley (Union City, OH), Versailles, Lima, St. Marys, Coldwater, Ottawa Glandorf, Van Wert and Wapakoneta.

Students travel to Celina three times a week (sometimes more) to practice bowling and the all-important, but much hated spare drills.

Sets of bleachers travel from bowling alley to bowling alley every week with many establishments being standing room only. Cost to observe is $3 per adult during the season and $6 per adult at tournaments, but you better get there early to ensure you have a seat to watch the two and one-half to three hour match.

Each game includes 5 players bowling 2 full games. After the scores are recorded, five "baker games" are played with 5 players bowling 2 frames each during the game. All games use scratch scores. There are no handicaps as in bowling alley league play.

Varsity girls are coached by Kieth Kiefer and Varsity boys are coached by Josh Goff. Junior Varsity boys are coached by Carol Berry and Junior Varsity girls are coached by Kieth Kiefer.

With the support of then students, Kieth Kiefer and Tyler Garwood, a junior high program was started in 2008-2009.

Parkway currently has two junior high teams being coached by Kieth Kiefer, Claude Coffman, Sr. and Jeremy Tribolet. The junior high teams began practice back in December. These middle schoolers only play matches every other Sunday and ended their season on Sunday, February 19.
