To the outgoing Panther Seniors, we would like to thank you for an exciting basketball season.  The effort you guys made, game after game was outstanding.  Always giving us something to cheer about, and keeping us on the edge of our seats, right down to the final seconds of several games this year.  It was sad watching you guys walk off your home court for the last time Saturday evening . We would like to bid farewell to Derek Luth, Riley Bransteter, Zach Gehron, and Evan Cheek.  Good luck in all your futures, you have made Parkway Proud!

New Bremen Buckles to the Panthers on 2-17-2012
Thank you for sharing the Varsity photos and story ~ James and Jill Leighner!
Any Panther fans that stayed home Friday night instead of heading up to the school to see the Panther's Varsity take on the Cardinals,  YOU PICKED THE WRONG NIGHT TO STAY HOME!  This was one of most exciting games of the year for the Panthers.

They came out strong in the first quarter, taking the early lead 12-4.  But it wouldn't phase the Cardinals as they battled back and took a 2 point lead at the half 29-27.  The third quarter stayed tight all the way, but Parkway would manage to regain a slim  2 point lead and start the final period up 40-38.  With just a minute left the Cards had fought their way back into the lead by 1 point.  But as the Cardinals found out, the Panther's never roll over and give up.  A late field goal in the paint b\put the Panthers back up by 1 with less than 10 secs left.

New Bremen would get the ball down the court and put up a last second shot for the win, but it would go.  Panthers left the Cardinals stunned, WINNING by a FINAL of 52-51!!!!!!!

Thank you for sharing the JV photos and story ~ James and Jill Leighner!
Parkway's JV was at home last Friday evening to take on the New Bremen Cardinals.  It was a rough night for the JV as they never really got much going until late in the 3rd quarter.  Too little too late, JV loses to the Cards 39-23.

Varsity Panthers Lose in Intense Play on 2-10-2012
Thank you for sharing the Varsity photos and story ~ James and Jill Leighner!

The Panthers Varsity came out HOT on Saturday against Perry. Leading at the end of the first 21-17.  Things went even better in the 2nd quarter as Parkway extended their lead heading into the lockers at halftime up 35-24.  In the 3rd quarter play was fairly even, but our Panthers were up 54-44 going into the 4th.  But after a Perry fast break ended with a flagrant foul called against Parkway, things just went into a tail spin for the Panthers.  Perry had the game tied with 2 minutes to go, both teams leaving nothing behind as they battled for the Win.  It would be a stunning loss for the Panthers as time ran out, down by 1, Losing to Perry by a score of 67-66.

Thank you for sharing the JV photos and story ~ James and Jill Leighner!
The Panther's JV team came out Saturday night firing on all cylinders taking a first quarter lead 12-3 over Perry.  They stayed hot in the 2nd quarter leading at the half 20-9.  Both teams played fairly even in the 3rd and 4th quarters, but it was the PANTHERS JV leading start to finish and a final of 39-28.

Weekend Boys Panther Hoops

Delphos Blue Jays and Perry fill the Weekend
Story and pictures by Pat Agler - Thanks, Pat!

The men took a trip to the "Vatican" and it wasn't very pleasant. The Blue Jays are fighting for a league title and it showed on Friday evening. As per usual, the 'Jays live or die by the three pointer. They were living large at the Panthers’ expense. Delphos came out in a flurry and quickly Parkway found themselves in a 24-8 hole after one quarter. It was all downhill for the panthers after that. The Blue Jays hit eight treys on the evening to just two for Parkway. Derek Luth led all Panthers with 19 points on the night. Parkway dropped the game with the blue jays 60-36. Saturday evenings game was a  thrilling but heartbreaking game for Parkway. The Panthers jumped out of the gates fast and furious, building a good sized lead midway through the first quarter. But Perry went on a run and closed the gap to 21-17 at the end of period one. Parkway continued to build on their lead in the second quarter getting good play in the paint. Heading into the half, parkway held a 35-24, eleven point advantage. With a ten point lead of 54-44 to begin the fourth quarter, Parkway felt confident that they were in the drivers seat. Perry had a different view of the situation. With a smothering defense and sometimes questionable calls, the commodores took the lead with just minutes to play in the game. Parkway continued to battle, down by just two points. On the Panthers’ next possession, Brant Barna got fouled as he shot a jumper. He made one out of the two foul shots with .3 seconds left on the clock .In a heartbreaker for the Panthers, Perry escaped with a 67-66 victory. Jordan Bollenbacher came up big all night from outside the arc, finishing the game with 19 points. Between games, three new members were inducted into the Parkway Athletic Hall of Fame, Brandi (Stover) Bruns 98', John Sidenbender 53' and Jennifer (Carr) Rice 96'.

Panther Boys' Action From Homecoming Weekend
Story and pictures by Pat Agler - Thanks for sharing!

With the Marion Local Flyers in town on Friday, February 3, 2012, for a MAC contest, the Panthers were energized on homecoming. The Flyers came out of the gates with a flurry and after one quarter held a 16-9 lead. The Panthers were definitely undersized in the paint and it showed when it came to rebounds. Parkway just couldn't get anything to fall in the period as Marion Local built a double digit lead heading into halftime. Down by twenty points at the half, parkway needed to come out strong in the third quarter. That's just what they did, outscoring the Flyers fifteen to eleven and pulling a little closer. Heading into the final quarter, the Flyers held a 45-29 lead. Parkway still had a lot of ground to make up, even though they bested Marion Local in the period, it just wasn't enough to get a win. It truly was a game of two halves for the Panthers, but they had too much ground to make up in the second half. The Panthers drop to 1-16 on the season, but continue to leave it all on the court.

Panthers Lose to Close Match-ups with Lincolnview
Thank you for sharing the Varsity and JV photos and the story ~ James and Jill Leighner!

The Panthers traveled to Lincolnview Saturday evening 1-28-2012 to take on the Lancers.  After a slow start in the first quarter, starting out down 16-4, the Panthers battled back in the 2nd to go to halftime tied at 27.  In the 3rd quarter the Panthers would be running right with the Lancers, even taking the lead for a short time.  In the 4th quarter, with the Lancers were leading by 5 with 4 minutes on the clock, they would go into a "keep away" mode and force the Panthers to fowl and send them to the line.  The Lancers made their free throws down the stretch and put Parkway away with a final score of 48-43.   Click Below for more Varsity shots.

Parkway's JV team also went down to Lincolnview Saturday by a final score of 56-37.

Panther Boys' Action From the Weekend and Face in the Crowd
Story and pictures by Pat Agler - thanks Pat!
It has been a struggle for the Panthers so far this season. The boys keep grinding though, giving it all they have and playing hard. On Friday evening they traveled south to St. Henry for a game with the Redskins. Parkway came out strong and held a one point,14-13 lead at the first break. The Panthers hung right in with the redskins in the second quarter, leading to a 27-27 tie at the half. The third quarter spelled doom for the Parkway squad as they couldn't buy a bucket. St. Henry topped the Panthers 13-2 in the period giving them a comfortable 40-29 lead with one to play. Parkway played much better in the final period, but came out on the short end of a 53-45 score. Derik Luth led
the Panther scoring with 14 points.

As in Fridays game, one bad quarter was the demise of the Panthers. Saturday evening's contest with Lincolnview didn't start in Parkway's favor. After one period they found themselves in a 16-4 hole. Giving credit to the Panthers resolve, they clawed their way back to within reach for a 25-21 score at the half. Parkway came out in the third quarter ready to play, they were able to outscore the lancers by three and finishing the quarter only down by one point,35-34. The Lancers turned the tables on Parkway in the final period with a smothering defense and pulled out

a 48-43 win. Once again, Derik Luth played a large role for the Panthers with 19 points.

Parkway Boys Basketball Hosts New Knoxville on 1-720-2012
Story and pictures by James and Jill Leighner - thank you for sharing!

The Panthers were at home last Friday evening hosting the New Knoxville Rangers.  Both teams played tough in the first quarter with parkway leading 11-9. The second would end with the Rangers up just 2 points at 25-23. New
Knoxville stretched the lead in the 3rd quarter making the score 39-33. Parkway would continue to fight through the fourth quarter, but it wouldn't be enough as they lost by a final of 57-44. Click below for more pictures.

Fort Loramie Redskins visit Parkway Freshmen at Home
Pictures and update by James & Jill Leighner. Thank you for sharing!

Parkway's Freshman boys basketball took on the Fort Loramie Redskins at home Monday night.  The Redskins punished the Panthers in the first half with their full court press causing several turnovers to take lead at halftime
20-4.  In the 2nd half the Redskins backed off the press but would continue to build the lead for a final score of 37-12.   Click below for more great shots of the game.

Panther Boys Basketball Team Still Looking for MAC Win
Action Shots and Story by Pat Agler - Thanks Pat!

The Panthers are still looking for their first MAC win of the year, with New Knoxville in town the odds were pretty good for Parkway. Both teams matched up fairly even in the first quarter with Parkway leading 11-9 after one. The second period was big for the Rangers as they got multiple looks after a shot. The Rangers outscored Parkway sixteen to twelve in the quarter, giving them a 25-23 lead at the halftime break. New Knoxville built on that lead in the third period and forced untimely panther turnovers. With one quarter left, Parkway found themselves with a 39-33 disadvantage. The Panthers fought and clawed in the fourth period, but the Rangers got timely three point shots to fall when they needed them. With time running out, Parkway's only hope was to foul and that was to no avail. The Rangers handed Parkway another loss by the score of 57-44. Derik Luth led the way for Parkway with 21 points on the evening and Austin Dennison chipped in with 10 points.

Panther Boys Basketball Team takes on Minster and Botkins on January 13 & 14
Action Shots and Story by Pat Agler - Thanks Pat!

It has been an uphill struggle this season for the Panthers, but they continue to keep clawing and scratching. Versus Minster the Panthers kept within ten points until the latter stages of the game. Parkway got off to a slow start in the first quarter and just couldn't gain any ground all evening. The wildcats won the game 48-34. On Saturday evening Parkway traveled to Botkins for a non-conference tilt with the Trojans. The first quarter once again was not benefical for the Panthers. Botkins started off with a 13-0 run and never looked back. After an abysmal first quarter Parkway was down 15-3. In the second period both teams put up eight points making the halftime score 23-11. Although not out of the game yet, it didn't get any better for Parkway. In the third quarter the Trojans increased thier lead , outscoring the Panthers by six in the period. The scoring was even in the final period and the Trojans got the win by a score of 49-27. If not for a rough first quarter, it would have been much closer throughout the game. With the loss Parkway drops to 1-11 on the season.

Parkway Boys Basketball Hosts Paulding on 1-7-2012
Story and pictures by James and Jill Leighner - thank you for sharing!

It didn't seem as though either team could miss offensively in the first quarter as the Panthers would be leading 24-21 going into the 2nd quarter.  The game would stay close as it went to halftime tied at 37.  The Panthers were down by 6 at the end of the third quarter with a score of 52-46.  Parkway would make a run for the lead in the 4th quarter but foul trouble would get the best of them as they ended the game down 66-57.

Parkway Boys Saw Tough Schedule coming Last Weekend
Storys and Pictures by Pat Agler - Thanks Pat!

Parkway knew that they had a tough schedule this weekend with Ft. Recovery and Crestview both unbeaten on the season. On Friday night Ft. Recovery started the game at their pace, fast and furious and quickly built an 18-9 lead on the Panthers after the first quarter. Unfortunately for the Parkway squad, nine points would be the most that they scored in any quarter. At the half the Indians were in command with a 35-14 lead. The indians ability to just go higher and snap the rebounds from Parkway gave them many extra chances at a missed shot. Coupled with the poor shooting for the Panthers, Parkway had no chance to catch the Indians. With a final score of 56-26 parkway falls to 0-4 on the season. After a rough and tumble game Friday evening , the panthers headed to convoy for a contest with the knights. Parkway came out firing on all cylinders but at the end of one period found themselves down 12-8. The second quarter was much better as both teams played an up tempo game. At the half, crestview only had a three point lead at 27-24. In the third quarter the knights built a lead on the heels of timely three point buckets. After three quarters, crestview was up by ten points, but the panthers were still in the game. The final quarter was a mirror image in the scoring column as the knights put up 13 to the 6 for parkway. Crestview stays unbeaten at 4-0 with a 53-36 win. Riley Bransteter led the Panthers with 17 points in  a losing effort, dropping the panthers to 0-5 heading into the holiday tournament.

December 9 ~ Panther Boys Varsity Slip by 4 Points to Temple Christian
Story and Action shots by Pat Agler - Thanks Pat!

One new Face in the Crowd picture posted.
Click here for more pictures of both games

The Panthers have started the season 0-2 and were anxious to get thier first "w". The Temple Christian pioneers like to play at a fast pace and Parkway needed to slow the pace. In the first quarter, the panthers and pioneers matched shot for shot. Although both teams had some sloppy play, it was even at 10-10 after one period. The second quarter belonged to the Panthers, it seemed like they couldn't miss as they built a 27-17 lead when the Pioneers hit a jumper at the buzzer for three. At the half, Parkway seemed in control with a 27-20 advantage. Temple Christian came out fired up in the third quarter and applied a heavy defensive pressure on Parkway. The Panthers were outscored by ten in the third period and found themselves on the loosing end heading into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter Parkway drew within a point of the pioneers but forced to foul late was the Panther downfall. The Pioneers were able to hang on for a four point 55-51 victory, dropping parkway to 3-0 on the season. Senior Riley Bransteter led the panthers with 13 points and Matt Heindel chipped in with 10.

Panthers Basketball Starts-up With Waynesfield-Goshen - Heartbreaker
Story and Action shots by Pat Agler - Thanks Pat!
Click here for more pictures of both games on the Pantherzden!
The Parkway men started their season off with a trip to Waynesfield-Goshen to battle with the Tigers on Friday December 3, 2011.  Both teams started off slow, but the Tigers built a 14-9 lead in the first quarter. The Panthers settled down and were able to pull within two points at the half. Waynesfield- Goshen held a slim 24-22 lead at the break. Parkway came out of the half with an aggressive defense and were able to get a lot of second shots after a miss. The Panthers held the Tigers to only four points in the third quarter for a 33-28 Parkway lead after three quarters.  Down by one, the Tigers put up a shot that didn't connect, but they got the rebound and threw it up just before the buzzer, and it dropped in. That shot put the dagger in the Panthers, losing a heartbreaker 46-45.

Coming off a loss at the buzzer, the Panthers were at home on Saturday evening, December 4, 2011. The first quarter was pretty much a draw with the Adams Central Jets on top 14-12 at the end of one. In the second quarter, Adams Central held the Panthers to only five points and extended their lead to 26-17 at the half. Parkway shot much better in the third period; the problem was the Jets did, also. Parkway kept fighting till the end but couldn't make up the difference. The Panthers fall to 0-2 on the season with the 57-43 loss. Derek Luth led the Panthers with 21 points on the night.

Cheerleading advisor Michelle Agler was given a plaque for her ten years of service at halftime; Congratulations Michelle!
