Final Lady Panthers Hoops ~ Tourney Game Lost 61-55

They say it is hard to beat a team twice in one season and that proved true for the lady Panthers on Tuesday, 2-21-2012, evening. Spencerville came out running and caught Parkway off guard, but the Panthers pulled within three at the end of one. With the lead, the Bearcats didn't let up, but Parkway kept pace on the heels of Megan Fisher's timely three point shots. At the halftime break, Parkway trailed by just four points with a score of 29-24. We knew this would be a close game, much like these teams played earlier in the season and it would probably go down to the wire. The third period was a tight one also with Spencerville besting the Panthers by just two points. We headed into the final stanza with the Bearcats holding a 41-35 lead. Becca Harshman had been held in check most of the game by the Bearcat defense. But midway through the period, she broke out. Parkway took the lead late in the quarter, that was short lived as the Bearcats got two key steals and were able to capitalize on them. The Panthers end their season with a 61-55 tournament loss. Megan Fisher  had a hot hand from behind the arc, hitting five treys and finishing with 17 points. Becca Harshman had 24 points to lead all scorers and Haley Burtch chipped in with 10 points.

Lady Panthers Hosts Minster on 1-12-2012
Thank you for sharing James and Jill Leighner

The Lady Panthers were at home last Thursday evening to take on the Minster
Wildcats.  Both teams played hard for the entire game, but would come up
short on the scoreboard as both the JV and Varsity teams would be defeated.

Becca Harshman Breaks Panther Basketball Record

It's amazing what a difference of a few weeks can make. The Lady Panthers were on a three game winning streak when it looked as if it was coming to an end. The Bradford Railroaders, on January 3, 2012,  had a 12 point advantage heading into the final quarter of play. After the first quarter we were all knotted at 21. At the half Bradford, held a four point advantage. In the third quarter the Railroaders increased their lead to 55-43, but the Panthers flipped the switch and with a tenacious defense and "lights out" shooting, knotted it at 67-67. Parkway outscored Bradford 24-12 in the fourth quarter. In the overtime period it was all Parkway, with a smothering defense and success at the charity stripe. The Lady Panthers were not to be denied a victory. The ladies improved their record to 4-5 on the season with a monster performance from senior Becca Harshman. Last season Becca battled injuries and just wasn't at one-hundred percent. That's not the case this season as she has started to flourish. She earned MVP honors in last week's Chatt Insurance Holiday Tournament and picked up where she left off with a record breaking night versus Bradford. The Panther fans were treated to a 41 point performance that broke Lori Oberlitner's long standing single game scoring record. Congratulations goes out to Becca Harshman (#20) and the Lady Panthers.

Parkway Girls Basketball Plays One Game Last Week
Story and Action shots by Pat Agler - Thanks Pat!

The ladies are working hard to get into the win column, but a tough defense from Ft. Recovery stymied them once again. The game started off with a furious pace, and the Panthers kept it close in the first quarter. Down 19-16, Parkway was right where they needed to be. In the second period, the Indians clamped down and held the Panthers to ten points while scoring 18 themselves. At the half, Ft. Recovery held a 37-26 lead. The tempo slowed down in the third quarter, but the Indians still increased their lead by three in the period. After three quarters Parkway was behind 46-32. The Panthers couldn't gain any ground in the final period as the Indians pulled away to a 58-39 win. Becca Harshman led Parkway with 12 points on the night. The junior varsity also lost on the evening.

Lady Panthers Basketball Starts-up With Lima Senior and Wayne Trace Matches

The Lady Panthers basketball team opened the season on Saturday evening (11-26) with a loss to the Lima Senior Spartans. Coming into the game, Parkway knew it would be a tough matchup with the Panthers giving up alot of height to the Spartans. The first quarter was close with the Spartans leading 12-7 after one quarter. In the second period, the Panthers had trouble breaking the Lima Senior press and points were at a premium. At the break, the Spartans held a comfortable 29-16 lead. The third and fourth quarters were much the same as the first half, the Panthers just couldn't penetrate the Spartan defensive pressure. The speed and transition game of the Lady Spartans was just too much for the Panthers.  Haley Burtch led the Panthers with 12 points and Becca Harshman was also in double figures with 10. Kylie Snyder also chipped in 8 points.

The Raiders from Wayne Trace visited the Panthers on Tuesday evening (11-29) and left town with a win. Parkway got off to a slow start, while the Raiders cruised to a 17-8 lead after one quarter. In the second period, Parkway closed the gap and were down by only five points at the half. The third quarter doomed the Panthers as they were out-scored by 11 points. After three quarters, the Raiders led 47-31. Parkway held their own in the final period, but just couldn't make up the large difference. Becca Harshman and Haley Burtch led the Panthers with 15 points each. The Panthers start the season off at 0-2.
